Beloved Game: Planescape Torment

Planescape Torment ranks as my favorite RPG of all time. Built by Black Isle on top of the Baldur’s Gate Infinity Engine, Planescape Torment is a thinking man’s RPG. You play as the Nameless One, an immortal warrior with amnesia. You’ve awakened in the morgue of Sigil, a city that spans universes, and you begin your journey to find out who you are and why you cannot die.

Unlike traditional D&D, the Planescape universe is free to go anywhere and do almost anything. From a rogue Modron that’s developed its own personality to a wiseass talking skull voiced by Rob Paulson aka Pinky of Pinky & the Brain fame. Each party member had a great back story and this game was really where NPC party members really began to shine in RPG’s. Depending on who you had in your party they would banter back and forth and contribute their own opinions in dialogue. The story is also unconventional and it becomes clear over the course of the game that in your prior lives you weren’t necessarily the protagonist.

The voice talent was top-knotch as shown by this IMDB page.

Unfortunately, I have yet to find this game as a digital download. Amazon has it listed online, with used copies somewhere around $13..
